In the midst of scaling up Daedalus Cybernetics, I found myself juggling multiple ventures while also trying to be present for my family. One evening, after a long day of meetings, I found my daughter sitting at the dining table, her homework spread out in front of her. She looked up and asked, 'Daddy, why do you work so much?' It was a simple question, yet one that threw me into a deep reflection about my commitments and energy management.
Being a founder-CEO means your time isn't solely your own, and you quickly learn that energy is a finite resource. I've had to be deliberate about how I allocate that energy across different projects and responsibilities. There are days I feel like I'm on top of the world, and others where I wonder if I'm doing enough—in either realm.
One of the most impactful lessons has been the importance of setting boundaries. I’ve learned to carve out specific times for family and personal recharge, which ultimately makes me more effective when I’m working. If I don’t recharge, I risk burning out, and then I’m not giving my best to Daedalus or my family.
In the end, it’s about balance—understanding that while the entrepreneurial journey is demanding, my commitments to both my ventures and my family are interwoven. When I prioritize my energy, I can lead with intention and compassion in both worlds.
